Vietnam's coal output fell for the fourth straight month in July to below 4 million tonnes but was slight higher than the same month last year, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
The southeastern Asian country produced 3.96 million tonnes of coal in July, a 0.84% uptick from 3.93 million tonnes a year ago but an 8.57% decline compared to 4.33 million tonnes in June, the data showed.
From January to July this year, Vietnam's cumulative production amounted to 28.97 million tonnes, 4.45% lower than 30.32 million tonnes last year.
The country's coal production is expected at 3.95 million tonnes in August, rising 5.92% on the year but dropping 0.27% month on month. This added to the total production to 32.92 million tonnes in the first eight months, down 3.32% from a year earlier.
The majority of domestically produced coal in Vietnam is used for local electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
