Solution to Ease Congestion and Shorten Customs Clearance Time
During peak seasons, the Lao Bao International Border Gate (Quang Tri Province) has long been a major bottleneck along the East–West Economic Corridor (EWEC), where container trucks often queue for hours waiting to complete customs procedures.
The establishment of ICD VSICO Lao Bao — the first inland container depot at the Vietnam–Laos border — marks a major breakthrough in regional logistics. It helps to:
Save up to 24 hours of waiting time during peak periods.
Reduce congestion and optimize cargo flows through the border gate.
Connect directly to the VSICO Deep-Sea Port in Chan May (Hue), forming a seamless logistics chain that integrates sea – land – warehousing – customs operations.
Project Highlights
According to the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, the project is invested by Vietnam Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSICO) with the following key figures:
Total investment: VND 236 billion.
Area: 85,782 m².
Capacity: 3.5 million tons per year (100,000 TEU containers).
Construction start: March, 2025 | Completion: Q2 2026.
ICD VSICO Lao Bao is regarded as a strategic “pressure-release valve” for the East–West corridor, helping shorten transportation cycles and enhance the competitiveness of goods in Vietnam’s Central Region.
Accelerating the Trans-Asian Supply Chain
Through integration with VSICO’s ports, warehouses, and transport services, the Lao Bao ICD creates a continuous logistics network stretching from the East Sea to the Laos–Thailand border.
➡ Today, exporters and importers can enjoy faster customs clearance, more efficient transport, and significant cost reductions across the entire supply chain.
