This morning (April 6), at Chân Mây – Lăng Cô Economic Zone, Thừa Thiên Huế Province, VSICO Maritime Joint Stock Company officially held the groundbreaking ceremony for VSICO Huế Port (Berths No.4 and No.5).
The ceremony was honored by the attendance of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính; Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Lê Hoài Trung; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyễn Chí Dũng; Secretary of the Thừa Thiên Huế Provincial Party Committee Lê Trường Lưu; Chairman of Thừa Thiên Huế Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Phương; together with leaders from ministries, central and local authorities, domestic and international shipping lines, customers and partners.
Strategically located at the nearest and most convenient gateway to the East Sea, VSICO Huế Port is being developed on a total area of 20.4 hectares, with a combined berth length of 540 meters for Berths No.4 and No.5. The port is capable of accommodating cargo vessels of up to 70,000 DWT (partially loaded) and container vessels of up to 4,000 TEUs.
Equipped with modern conveyor systems and advanced handling equipment, VSICO Huế Port is expected to significantly enhance cargo handling productivity and reduce transportation time.
Berth No.4 is expected to commence operations in Q2/2025, while Berth No.5 is scheduled to become operational in early 2026. The port is projected to handle up to 5 million tons of cargo annually and up to 100,000 TEUs per year for container vessels.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vũ Đức Huề, Chief Executive Officer of VSICO, stated that once VSICO Huế Port’s Berths No.4 and No.5 come into operation, they will help shorten cargo handling time at the port, accelerate vessel turnaround, reduce transportation distances, increase cargo throughput in the Central region, develop regional transport infrastructure and strengthen trade connectivity.
At the event, Mr. Hoàng Hải Minh, Vice Chairman of the Thừa Thiên Huế Provincial People’s Committee, emphasized that Chân Mây Port Cluster, including VSICO Huế Port, plays an extremely important strategic role as a national general seaport, a regional gateway and a deep-water port located at the eastern end of the East–West Economic Corridor. The port possesses significant conditions, potential and advantages to support economic, cultural and social development for Thừa Thiên Huế Province as well as for Vietnam.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, together with representatives from central and local authorities, VSICO representatives and project partners, officially launched the construction of VSICO Huế Port and conducted a site visit.
